Retreat

Nichol Chase - Havana, Cuba
June 14-July 5 2020

The Mazé Method 200-hour teacher trainings take you on a journey of self-discovery and education into all things yoga. This training is offered over one month this summer, in partnership with Cuba Wellness Adventures.  Come to Cuba with us and learn to teach what you love, while working with an organization founded by San Francisco Bay Area yoga teachers, dancers, artists and public school teachers with a goal of connecting travelers to aspects of Cuba not usually seen by tourists. A portion of the proceeds from all programs through Cuba Wellness Adventures is donated to Las Aguas Fund, which supports the sustainability of the amazing wellness and yoga communities in Cuba. So in signing up for this teacher training, you are also giving back to the yoga community in Cuba.

This foundational training (200–hour) program is ideal for serious students of yoga, aspiring yoga teachers, and teachers with varying levels of experience. Students with injuries and health issues are encouraged to attend. Our curriculum combines detailed alignment and intelligent sequencing with vinyasa theory, and provides you with sound knowledge and skills to teach safe and effective yoga classes. This training is recognized by Yoga Alliance and focuses on three areas of study: The Theory and Practice of Yoga, Yoga Philosophy, and The Art of Teaching. Upon completion of this training, graduates may register with Yoga Alliance at its RYT-200 level.

Participation in this training is legal and licensed for US citizens and residents under the general license of the US Department of the Treasury, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regulations. You will have Cuban and International guides with over 20 years of experience facilitating travel in Cuba. This will afford you the opportunity to see the real Cuba and meet the Cuban people who make it magic. The guides are also very familiar with the area and fluent in Spanish. They will be able to help with suggestions for things to do in Havana and will be able to help with helpful phrases you need to know to get from place to place. The teacher training program itself will be led completely in English.

Dates

June 14-July 5 2020

Expect daily hours to be Monday-Friday 7:00am-4:00pm with additional hours on a few evenings; however the exact schedule will be flexible and specific hours will be tailored to the teacher’s assessment of group needs, and announced prior to each respective module.

Complete participation is strongly recommended. However, life events and circumstances sometimes take priority, and we are as flexible and reasonable as we can be with our students. Makeup options are available. Please see our Makeup Policy for more information.

Designed to help you learn more about all things yoga, leverage your practice to improve your poses—and your experience of them—this program will provide you with an effective understanding of the biomechanical alignment of yoga postures (asana), as well as an expanded knowledge of yoga generally. Our curriculum combines detailed alignment and intelligent sequencing with vinyasa theory, and provides you with sound knowledge and skills to teach safe and effective yoga classes. You will study and deconstruct asana (yoga poses), pranayama (breath work), meditation, applied anatomy, therapeutics, yoga theory & practice, yoga history & philosophy, basic Sanskrit, ethics & boundaries, and you will master the skills required to teach. Most importantly, you’ll learn what impact all of this can have on your life, on and off the mat.

This training is ideal for serious students of yoga, aspiring yoga teachers, and teachers with varying levels of experience. We accommodate "stiff" students, and encourage their attendance. We also welcome students suffering with pain or injury and those who are working with systemic health challenges.  Pregnant women are also welcome.

Expect to join Nichol in class in Havana for requisite learning hours (as more fully detailed in the time/date section below).  In addition to onsite learning, students will receive digital access to extensive online learning resources and materials, including workbooks, worksheets, and other documents via our school's very own online learning platform. Accordingly, over the course of this training you will be enrolled in no fewer than four of our most essential online courses (Essential Poses & Practice, Essential Teaching Skills, Anatomy Primer and Philosophy Primer) with a retail value $1500.00.  Each of our online courses includes hours of video lessons and some include video practices.  Each of these online products also offers written resources in the form of manuals, workbooks, articles and other downloadable pdf documents, which you will use both during the training and likely for years post graduation. If you wish to learn more about our online resources or the courses included as part of tuition in this program  simply visit our online course portal at www.mazeonyoga.com).

Vedado
Havana, Cuba

You will stay in in a hip neighborhood of Havana, Vedado. The accommodations are one block from the malecón (sea wall). The streets are wide and open in this part of Havana and being close to the ocean provides beautiful views and more sea breezes than other areas of the city. The high ceiling yoga studio where you will train is walking distance from your accommodations and run by a yoga teacher and her mother. It is a beautiful opportunity to support these women entrepreneurs.
